01 · Scope
Start with the water incident
For an Auckland flood enquiry, describe the water source, when it started, which rooms are affected and any electrical or contamination hazards. Carpet Cleaning Pro focuses on carpet condition and suitable cleaning decisions. Water extraction, contaminated-material decisions and drying of building materials need an appropriate restoration assessment, not a promise that every carpet can be saved.
02 · Suitability
Assess carpet, underlay and subfloor
Surface appearance alone cannot tell you whether carpet is suitable to retain. Assessment should consider the water source, time wet, carpet backing, underlay and subfloor, as well as signs of contamination or material damage. Sewage or uncertain contamination needs specialist assessment before cleaning or air movement; do not assume extraction makes affected materials safe.
03 · Preparation
Stay safe before help arrives
Keep people and pets away from affected areas. Do not use a household vacuum on wet carpet. Avoid electrical equipment, sockets and wet wiring; do not enter an unsafe area to turn power off. If safe, stop further water at its source and take dated photographs from a safe position. Tell the provider when the incident happened, where water travelled and whether sewage or other contamination may be involved.
04 · Process
From extraction to measured drying
A sensible flood response establishes safe access and source control, assesses water-affected materials, removes accessible water where appropriate, and sets a drying or removal plan. Moisture checks should cover affected layers rather than the carpet surface alone. Only after contamination and moisture have been addressed should cleaning and aftercare be considered.
05 · Cost factors
Separate extraction, drying and cleaning costs
Ask the quote to distinguish water extraction, assessment of carpet and underlay, equipment, monitoring visits, removal or disposal, and cleaning after drying. The affected area, time wet, contamination, access and moisture beneath coverings can change the scope. Confirm exclusions and any revised work before it proceeds. An insurer decides coverage; a cleaning enquiry is not a claim approval.
06 · Aftercare
Use moisture checks, not a dry-looking surface
Follow the drying specialist's equipment and access instructions. Carpet that feels dry on top can still have moisture in its backing, underlay or subfloor. Ask what readings and completion criteria support the drying decision before replacing coverings or arranging a final clean. Recurring odour, staining or dampness warrants reassessment rather than repeated cosmetic cleaning.
07 · Limitations
Know when specialist restoration is needed
Cleaning cannot repair delaminated backing, reverse permanent dye damage or resolve moisture inside building materials. Retention, removal and replacement decisions should reflect material condition and contamination, not a guarantee made from photographs. Keep your original carpet enquiry with Carpet Cleaning Pro; specialist restoration is a separate service and should have its own confirmed scope.
